Advanced Software Club

 Advanced Software Club April 2023

Hello everyone, were you able to enjoy summer last week?  Hopefully it will return soon.

This month’s Advanced Software Club will be meeting via Zoom on Sunday, April 23 from 9:30 to 11:30 am and again on Friday, April 28 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm .

As Mother’s Day approaches, quilters in Ottawa start thinking of quilt shows. Certainly we are at Sew-Jo's, and hopefully you will be able to come visit us at the Ottawa Valley Quilt Guild quilt show on Mother's Day weekend.

That got me to thinking..... many of our embroidery machines have quilt blocks stitched in the hoop available in the sample designs. You can also purchase many designs to make different blocks, but it is easy to make our own.  So, this month we will look at creating quilt blocks in the hoop. We will start with the classic Attic Window block that is wonderful for showcasing larger print fabrics or portions of a panel.  Then we’ll have some fun with a Crazy Quilt block.  Those of you who joined me for the Advanced Techniques for Embroidery Machines class on crazy quilting last April or July may remember how much fun they are and how you can use the many decorative stitches on the machine. Creating the blocks in the software allows us to use the stitches on the Pfaff machines as well.

This is what I've come up with:

In order to get the most out of the Zoom session, we have found that having two devices was a benefit. You can use your laptop to do the lesson with me and then have the Zoom meeting on a tablet or even smart phone to see what I'm doing on my screen. If you don't have two devices, you can use two windows on the one screen, but it did take some finagling to get it working properly.  We found it useful that the device with your zoom session has voice capability.

If you plan to join me for this month’s Advanced Software Club, please sign up online at our  website www.sew-jos.ca/classes.htm so that I can forward you the instructions and handouts beforehand as well as provide the Zoom information. If you have signed up for the whole year and don't have your code yet, please let me know.

Hope to see you online. If you can't make it on these dates, I will record the session for later viewing so even if you can't actually join us on one of these sessions, you can still sign up and access the information.

Stay safe

Cathy Hamilton

PS:  If you have been thinking of maybe upgrading your Premier+2 version of the software to mySewnet perpetual version, it is on sale for 20% off for the month of April.
