Software Club October 2022

Hello everyone, what lovely weather we have been having!

This month’s Software Club meeting via Zoom on Sunday, October 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 am.  Unfortunately I don't have enough Fridays this month for a second class so will offer on Wednesday, October 19 instead from 7 to 9 pm.

October means Thanksgiving and Halloween.  Since we're too late for Thanksgiving, I went with Halloween.  There have been some Halloween towel toppers being advertised lately so thought this would be a fun project.  I received a gift with a towel topper that is a piece of fabric folded in half then snapped or buttoned together which is really easy to make.  So we'll start with a really simple quilted project that will stitch onto the towel.  This basic blank can be easily modified to make for any season.  We will add wording and use designs from the Samples as well as creating new elements from clipart.

Here's what I've come up with so far:
 based on my inspiration .

Then, because Jo has been playing with gnomes and piqued my interest, we'll get a little more difficult and make a Halloween gnome that can top a towel or just be used as an embellishment.  The hat will fold down to create a loop to hold in place.  I've created clipart for the hat and beard which we will use for the design and then use SuperDesign shapes for features such as the nose and feet.  This cute guy can also be made in different colours and embellished for different seasons.
Here he is decorated for Halloween:

In order to get the most out of the Zoom session, we found that having two devices was a benefit. You can use your laptop to do the lesson with me and then have the Zoom meeting on a tablet or even smart phone to see what I'm doing on my screen. If you don't have two devices, you can use two windows on the one screen, but it did take some finagling to get it working properly.  We found it useful that the device with your zoom session has voice capability.

If you plan to join me for this month’s Software Club, please sign up online at our website www.sew-jos.ca/classes.htm so that I can forward you the instructions and handouts beforehand as well as provide the Zoom information. If you haven't prepaid for the year, the fee is $15. The coupon code for having paid for the full year has changed this year, so if you have prepaid and don't have the new code, let me know.

Hope to see you online. If you can't make it on these dates, I will record the session for later viewing so even if you can't actually join us on one of these sessions, you can still sign up and access the information.

Stay safe
