Hello everyone, isn't today just a another picture perfect day? Hopefully this lovely weather will last!
This month’s Software Club will be meeting via Zoom on Friday, July 15 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and again on Sunday, July 17 from 9:30 to 11:30 because I have been out of town.
For this month I was looking for a project and remembered seeing some fabric baskets. Fabric baskets are a fun palette to add design elements as well as be functional to organize a workspace or even hold a plant. Their uses are endless. They can be easily be made with a sewing machine, but while the hoop size will limit the size of the basket, we can add lots of fun embroidery, quilting and other embellishments when we create them in the hoop. So, this month we will create quilted fabric baskets. We will start with borders to create the basic pieces which are quilted with the Quilt Block wizard. Embroidery designs made from SuperDesigns and motif stitches will then be created to embellish the basket and quilt the cuff. Stitched with two hoopings for the basket and two hoopings for the cuff, the whole basket is stitched in the hoop with no visible raw edges. Only the bottom corners and adding the top band are done with the sewing machine.
I haven't had the opportunity to sew one out yet, but this is my inspiration: We will create this design for the bag and this is the cuff design .
In order to get the most out of the Zoom session, we found that having two devices was a benefit. You can use your laptop to do the lesson with me and then have the Zoom meeting on a tablet or even smart phone to see what I'm doing on my screen. If you don't have two devices, you can use two windows on the one screen, but it did take some finagling to get it working properly. We found it useful that the device with your zoom session has voice capability.
If you plan to join me for this month’s Software Club, please sign up online at our website www.sew-jos.ca/classes.htm so that I can forward you the instructions and handouts beforehand as well as provide the Zoom information. If you haven't prepaid for the year, the fee is $15. The coupon code for having paid for the full year has changed this year, so if you have prepaid and don't have the new code, let me know.
Hope to see you online. If you can't make it on these dates, I will record the session for later viewing so even if you can't actually join us on one of these sessions, you can still sign up and access the information.
Please note that I will be on vacation in August, and as such the next Software Club after this month will be in September.
Stay safe
