Hello everyone, I hope you are all staying safe and cool with this latest heat wave.
This month’s Software Club will be meeting via Zoom on Sunday, July 11 from 9:30 to 11:30 and again on Friday, July 16 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm .
Summer is the perfect time for picnics and barbecues and outdoor get-togethers with family and friends that we can enjoy while minimizing risks. It would be fun to make some placemats to use for those summer picnics – something that would be cute, portable and functional. In this project we will make two different styles of placemats in the hoop that have pockets to store utensils and make an easy package for each setting. With more interest in reusing instead of recycling, this placemat also works for children to take to school in the fall. Students can ditch single-use napkins and utensils to save the environment!
Placemats will be stitched with a backing and enclosed seams, with batting added if desired. One style has a pocket for the plate as well as the cutlery; the other just has pockets for the cutlery and can be rolled up. We will start with Borders and Frames to create the blank which we will then embellish.
Here's what I used for inspiration and what I've come up with so far:
In order to get the most out of the Zoom session, we found that having two devices was a benefit. You can use your laptop to do the lesson with me and then have the Zoom meeting on a tablet or even smart phone to see what I'm doing on my screen. If you don't have two devices, you can use two windows on the one screen, but it did take some finagling to get it working properly. We found it useful that the device with your zoom session has voice capability.
For the more advanced software, Premier+2 Ultra or mySewnet Platinum versions, we will continue with creating a design from fabric. These classes will be on Sunday, July 25 from 9:30 to 11:30 am as well as on Wednesday, July 28 from 7-9 pm. In this class we will create a drawing of the photo using the Draw tab and use the Wizard to make an initial design. We will then create some elements with the Precise Create tab to add more detailling.
If you plan to join me for any of these month’s Software Clubs, please sign up online at our website www.sew-jos.ca/classes.htm so that I can forward you the instructions and handouts beforehand as well as provide the Zoom information. If you haven't prepaid for the year, the fee is $15 for the original Software Club. Let me know if you can't find the appropriate coupon code for having paid for the full year.
We are not offering an annual fee structure for the Advanced Software Club as of yet.
Hope to see you online. If you can't make it on these dates, I will record the session for later viewing so even if you can't actually join us on one of these sessions, you can still sign up and access the information.
Now I'm off to stitch out some samples.
Stay safe
