Software Clubs May 2021

Hello everyone, I hope you are all staying safe and happily occupied during this latest lockdown.

This month’s Software Club will be meeting via Zoom on Sunday, May 9 from 9:30 to 11:30 and again on Friday, May 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm .

Summer is almost here and that means more time outdoors, especially in these times.  Water is always welcome when outdoors for an extended period of time and carrying a water bottle can be cumbersome.  In the project we will make a carrier or caddy to hold a water bottle using the Epress Design Wizard from a pattern. Then we will add quilting to add batting for insulation and keep the water colder for longer.  Add a strap, or loop to slide onto your belt, and keep hands free for other purposes. The side seams and strap or loop will be completed with the sewing machine.

These holders are  a blank canvas to embellish to suit the personality of the owner, and are great for taking water to sports practices and games or dance class. No more grabbing the wrong water bottle! And a bonus, their water will stay cold.

Here's what I've come up with so far:

In order to get the most out of the Zoom session, we found that having two devices was a benefit. You can use your laptop to do the lesson with me and then have the Zoom meeting on a tablet or even smart phone to see what I'm doing on my screen. If you don't have two devices, you can use two windows on the one screen, but it did take some finagling to get it working properly.  We found it useful that the device with your zoom session has voice capability.

For the more advanced software, Premier+2 Ultra or mySewnet Platinum versions, we will continue with the nail maintenance theme.  These classes will be on Sunday, May 30 from 9:30 to 11:30 am  as well as on Wednesday, June 2 from 7-9 pm.  In this class we will take an existing shape in the Draw tab and convert it to a manicure tool holder.  We will cut the shape up and put it back together as well as modify it for the outer shape. Then we will use other drawing tools to add elements that will hold the tools in position before converting the drawing into a design.  Of course the holder will be embellished.

If you plan to join me for any of these Software Clubs, please sign up online at our  website www.sew-jos.ca/classes.htm so that I can forward you the instructions and handouts beforehand as well as provide the Zoom information. The fee is $15.  If you have prepaid for the year for the original Software Club you can use its coupon code. Let me know if you can't find the code.

We are not offering an annual fee structure for the Advanced Software Club as of yet.

Hope to see you online. If you can't make it on these dates, I will record the session for later viewing so even if you can't actually join us on one of these sessions, you can still sign up and access the information.

I'm off to stitch out some samples.

Stay safe
