Software Club August 2020

Hello everyone, This month’s Software Club will be meeting via Zoom on Sunday, August 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 am and again on Friday, August 21 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm since last weekend was a holiday weekend.

This month, I'm continuing on a theme apparently.  The need to wear face masks isn’t going away any time soon says many health experts.  This brings a need for a way to carry them safely when we aren’t wearing them. I’ve been using a Ziploc bag but apparently this is not optimal for a used mask as it traps the moisture of a used mask which increases the risk of microbial growth. If we make a holder with fabric or even mesh, the mask and holder can be washed at the same time.  Alternatively, use a washable liner such as PUL or nylon and wipe down between uses. In this project we will create some different styles of in the hoop (ITH) face mask pouches or holders.  First we will start with a holder for the flatter style of mask which makes it easier to keep an unused mask clean. Then we will make a simple design that uses snaps to hold closed which works for the more contoured style of mask.  Lastly we will make a bigger bag with a zipper that can store the used masks flat and can also be used to hold them in the washing machine. Of course each of these options can be embellished.

In order to get the most out of the Zoom session, we found that having two devices was a benefit.  You can use your laptop to do the lesson with me and then have the Zoom meeting on a tablet or even smart phone to see what I'm doing on my screen.  If you don't have two devices, you can use two windows on the one screen, but it did take some finagling to get it working properly.  We found it useful that the device with your zoom session has voice capability.

If you have stitched out any previous sessions’ design(s) please have it (them) close at hand as well, or any show and tell. We all like to see what you have been doing.

If you plan to join me for this month’s Software Club, please sign up online at our  website www.sew-jos.ca/classes.htm so that I can forward you the instructions and handouts beforehand as well as provide the Zoom information.  If you haven't prepaid for the year, the fee is $12.  If you have prepaid and attending, the same coupon code as last year will work.  Let me know if you can't find the appropriate coupon code or if you have any issues.

Hope to see you online.  It will be nice to see everyone's faces again.  If you can't make it on these dates, I will record the session for later viewing.  Let me know and I will give you the link.
