Hello everyone,
This month’s Software Club will be meeting on Sunday, November 11 from 9:30 to 11:30 am and again on Friday, November 16 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. On Sunday we will stop at 11 am for a time to pay respect to our fallen soldiers.
At our last club, there was significant interest in creating an advent calendar. So this month, we are going to make a variety of components than can be put together to make an advent calendar. An advent calendar, for those of you who don’t know, is a calendar containing small numbered pockets or flaps, one of which is opened on each day of Advent, the 24 days before Christmas. You can get a cheap chocolate version at the Dollar Store, but why not make a permanent one that you can personalize and put your own treats or gifts in each year.
A Pinterest search for advent calendar brings up many ideas. The calendar can be pockets arranged in the shape of a tree or just rows of pockets shaped like houses or presents which may be circling a central Christmas tree. Alternatively, the pockets can be cars on a train. In this project we will make houses that will be arranged around a central tree.
We have built in appliqué Super Designs and Frames in our software that will make perfect pockets for the house. We will also use a triangle shape for a roof that can be flipped up to reveal the pocket. Of course each house needs to be different, so we will also use clipart and the Express Design Wizard to make variations. Each house will have doors and windows all created with different techniques, and of course be numbered using the Letters.
Those of you with the older software packages can also do this project, if you would like to join us. I just won't have the exact wording in my notes.
In order to get the most out of the session, please bring your laptop (and software dongle/hasp, if you are using Premier+ version or earlier). If you stitched out any previous sessions’ design(s) please bring it (them) along as well, or any show and tell. We all like to see what you have been doing.
If you plan on join me for this month’s Software Club, please sign up online at our new website www.sew-jos.ca/classes.htm so that I can forward you the instructions to print beforehand. I have made the class free to sign up, but if you haven't prepaid for the year, the fee is $10.
Hope to see you at Club.
