Techniques for Advanced Embroidery Machines

This is a series of Technique classes for the Designer Epic 2, Designer Epic, Designer Brilliance 80 and Designer Sapphire 85 machines.  The previous series of techniques classes are now combined into one and we are continuing to do the classes via Zoom.  Each month a new topic will be presented.  The first half of the class will explain how to do a technique(s) and the second half will discuss the project provided using the technique.

Each class will be recorded so that if you are not available on the particular day and time, you can still participate.  You can also purchase the class after the date.  If interested in a past class, please send an e-mail to

Have you created any amazing projects in the hoop? This class will introduce you to designs built-in to your HUSQVARNA® VIKING® sewing and embroidery machine. But wait – there’s more! We will also look at mySewnet™ and design collections available with a variety of hoop projects.  Our embroidery software also has a variety of choices.

Design Positioning

Do you know the difference between piping and welts?  Do you know when to use one vs the other and which foot to use?  In this class we will look at when and how to use each, including incorporating into your quilt.

Circular Attachment

Have you purchased the circular attachment and it now sits on the shelf because you don't know what to do with it?  Your Circular Attachment is the perfect tool when you want to make unique embellishments on your sewing projects, garments and quilts. You can sew simple circles, flowers, or parts of circles to create unique borders or graphic patterns. Combine circles in different sizes and create large patterns.  In this class we will delve in how to use this helpful tool.

Create Fonts

There are many fonts included on our embroidery machine, but sometimes they aren’t quite what we are looking for. Perhaps it is the wrong size, or maybe not the style desired. The free version of mySewnet™, Basic version, (or an older version of the software such as Premier+2, Premier+ or even 6D Embroidery) includes the QuickFont wizardwhere we can create a font to use on our embroidery machines, from any font that is installed on the computer.  In this class we will install a new font on the computer, then use this new font to create a version that can be used on the embroidery machine.

Use endless designs to create borders and trims. You can even use them to quilt your quilt.  Learn how to create your own Argyle design

Eyelet and Wing Needle

Machine embroidery creates eyelets as well as designs using a wing needle! It also works in sewing mode. You can use this technique on your home dec projects, heirloom projects, and garments, or even spruce up ready-made garments and linens.

Embellishing and Adding Texture

The Husqvarna®Viking® machines have a number of different feet available to embellish and add texture to a project.  In this class we will explore the different feet that can be used primarily in sewing, but also in embroidery where you can easily create decorative yarn embellishment.

Crochet and Freestanding Lace

Switch up thread and designs to create a crochet-looking free-standing lace. The crochet lace uses a heavier thread than previously embroidery lace designs giving it more of a hand-look crochet effect. What a beautiful look to add to jackets, purses, and home dec projects.

Programming Stitches

In this class, you will learn how to program stitches, as well as edit the combination. We will look at doing this in both sewing as well as embroidery mode.  These combined stitches are great for quilting or embellishing your garments and other projects.

Pictogram Stitches

Pictograms are designs created by combining pre-programmed geometric shapes. Before the embroidery machines became common place, they were used to create embroidery designs by combining variations.  Pictograms have existed for over 20 years on Husqvarna Viking sewing machines. You can program a number of stitches up to 20” (500mm) long in sewing mode or embroidery mode.
