Class Registration Policy

  • You can sign up for a class online on our website or through the store. Classes can fill up quickly. Please register early to avoid disappointment.

  • Except for  Husqvarna or Embroidery Clubs, payment is due when you sign up.

  • We provide Husqvarna Viking sewing machines for our sewing classes, unless otherwise noted.

  • Class fees will not be refunded if we are notified less than 7 days before the class is scheduled to start. Refunds will not be provided for no-shows.

  • Classes are subject to cancellation if a minimum is not met. In this case, class fees will be fully refunded.

  • Some courses, where specified, have a kit fee which must be purchased. Otherwise, we would prefer supplies be purchased from Sew-Jo’s.

  • Attendance is limited to those who have paid for the class.

Sew Pants that Fit

Anyone can sew their own clothes! It just takes a little imagination, some instruction, and practice. In this pant fitting class you will learn everything you need to know to fit a pair of pants from a commercial pattern; start with a muslin then alter to fit your unique shape. Leave class with a fitted and altered pattern, and make a pair of pants.

Inktense Colours

Use Inktense pencils or blocks to add colour to your fabric creations. Whether you want to cover up a few imperfections, create a better skyline or liven up the whole colour scheme, it's easy with this versatile medium. Once dry it is permanent. In this hands-on class you will learn different techniques to apply Inktense to fabric. A variety of stitched samples will be provided for you to practice on.

Sewing for the Young - ages 10 and up

Children, tweens and teens enjoy making their own creations. With the help of the teacher, you will be encouraged to sew a garment that you will be proud to wear. You will choose the project that is interesting to you whether it is a sweatshirt, a pyjama or a t-shirt. Each student will progress at their own capacity. Individual instructions will be given. As they sew, students will learn different techniques and be guided to make it as nice as can be. Perfection is NOT the goal but learning the possibility of using your creativity to make it your own and have FUN!

Learn to Sew Your Own Project

In this basic learn to sew class the teacher will guide you in making that special project, depending on the student. Each student will choose the project they would like to do. It could be for themselves or children or anything. Maybe you know how to sew but are hesitant in cutting that beautiful fabric. At the beginning of each class (approx. 45 min.), a technique will be demonstrated to do the basic seam finishes, how to insert a zipper, little tricks that makes sewing more enjoyable & the tools that makes it better. Then each student will work on their own project.

Introduction to Tuffet Pillows

Learn the skills required too make the tuffet stool, but less intimidating in pillow form. Make two pillows, one each 14" and 16". They are fast and unbelievable easy to make.

Free Motion Embroidery

Learn how to free motion embroider with any sewing machine with just straight stitch and zig zag. Learn how to shade, outline, make dimension stitches and how to texture, all with your sewing machine. Your sewing machine will become a box of paints for you to express yourself.

Paper Bag Purse

This class makes use of the paper grocery bags that some stores are using again. We start by transforming the paper into fabric that looks like leather. Then add texture and designs to the fabric, add pockets into a lining and finally put together to make a purse.

Beginner Sewing: Tote Bag

This class is for absolute beginners who want to learn the basics of machine sewing. This is a 6 week course beginning with a background information session on types of fabric, fabric construction, tools, notions, and machine parts and functions. Students will practice basic sewing techniques on a new electronic sewing machine while producing a lunch-sized tote bag with zippered top. Students will learn to fully read and use a commercial sewing pattern.
